Taylor Adhesives Specification Sheet

DESCRIPTION: 2071 TUFF LOK X-LINK WOOD FLOORING ADHESIVE

Taylor 2071, with patented Meta-Tec® Technology, is a high solids, cross-linking, Amide-Ester-Acrylate, resin-based adhesive formulated for the interior installation of dry-back parquet, engineered wood plank, acrylic impregnated plank, and pre-finished and unfinished solid wood flooring. It is solvent free, has a low VOC content, contains no hazardous chemicals per OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.1200 and is a non flammable, low odor adhesive that meets all federal, state, and local government indoor air quality regulations. This specially formulated adhesive has good early strength buildup for immediate grab and gradually builds into a tenacious but resilient bond as the chemicals in the adhesive cross-link. While this adhesive is waterproof when cured, the wood flooring still must be protected from excessive moisture. The Permeance (Vapor Transmission Rate) for 2071 is 0.59 grams per M 2 – 24-hr – mmHg according to ASTM 96-00 standard test for water vapor transmissions of materials. This adhesive while retarding moisture vapor transmission is not intended to function as a moisture barrier.

APPLICATION

USE OVER

Taylor 2071 can be used over APA registered underlayment grade plywood; hardboard; association grade particleboard; cork underlayment; existing well-bonded tile and sheet flooring; terrazzo; radiant heated subfloors where surface temperatures do not exceed 85 0 F; and above, on, or below grade concrete in the absence of hydrostatic pressure, excessive moisture or alkalinity. The pH level of concrete must be between 5 and 10 (do not install if over 10) and moisture level of concrete must be below 3 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hours using an anhydrous calcium chloride test kit according to ASTM F-1869 test method On concrete floors with excessive moisture levels according to ASTM F-1869, Taylor X-Treme™ Concrete Sealers 2012 and 2022 can reduce moisture to acceptable levels from up to 12 lbs. using 2012, or from up to 8 lbs. using 2022. Use of these sealers allows the adhesive to properly cure to a waterproof film. When 2071 is used in conjunction with 2012 or 2022, the Lockdown™ System warranty applies. (See below.) Follow wood flooring manufacturer’s guidelines for allowable levels of moisture. Wood underlayments must have moisture content below 12% using a Tramex or Delmhorst wood moisture meter.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Substrate must be sound, smooth, level, clean and dry. It must be free of dust, dirt, wax, loose paint, incompatible sealers, incompatible curing compounds or fire retardant chemicals, fungicides, release agents, or any other foreign substance that might interfere with a good bond. Note: When installing thin-gauged wood (solid or engineered) irregular substrates may telegraph through as adhesive pulls wood down during curing states. Therefore, substrates must be level to 3/16” in a 10’ span to prevent telegraphing. Fill all cracks, holes and low spots with a polymer modified cementitious patching or leveling compound and allow to fully cure before applying adhesive. High spots must be leveled.

INSTALLATION

Substrate, adhesive, and wood flooring must be acclimated to acceptable temperature and humidity levels before, during, and after the installation in accordance with wood manufacturer’s guidelines. Note: Wood must be exposed to air when being acclimated. Do not use at temperatures below 60 0 F. Open time will vary with fluctuation of temperature and humidity, or porosity of the substrate.
